His Will >> Mine.

Hello friends!! Last week I talked about the journey to a life of contentment with Jesus. This week I’d like to share about enduring disappointment on the way there. While facing disappointment, it has caused me to think,

“Would I be experiencing disappointment right now if I truly wanted what God wanted for me? Right now, in this moment, I’m upset because I’m not receiving what I want, I’m not getting my way. But if this is what God wants for me, shouldn’t I be more accepting of the way things are going?”

I sound like a spoiled child lol but, honestly, I just have a lot of hope for my more-than-capable God to give me the desires of my heart. Sometimes it just feels super inconvenient when my preference doesn’t seem to align with His. Why is it that God and I can’t want the same thing for me right now? But I read an Instagram post the other day that said,

“It’s not that your preferences are irrelevant, it’s having them molded to God’s will.”

1 John 5:14

And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us.

He hears our prayers, but we should come to the realization that He responds to those prayers according to His will, not ours. At the end of the day I have to remember that I did indeed pray two different prayers. One asking God for the desires of my heart and the other being, “Lord, let your will be done in my life.” You know which one He is going to answer first… right?

Matthew 6:10

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

His will >>>> mine.

It’s all apart of the trusting process. When you’re feeling disappointed, remind yourself of these things:

  • Disappointment is a temporary feeling, not somewhere you stay.
  • You asked God for His will, which is better and His way, which is greater.
  • You may be thinking you’ll never receive the desires of your heart but don’t be quick to forget that His good, pleasing & perfect will include HIS best things FOR you!

Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Nowww, let’s talk about THIS verse:

Matthew 6:21

“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

I’ve ran across this verse many, many times. From what I can remember, it always used to confuse me a smidge. Today, I understand it & relate to it. Before my will be done and more important than my preference being met, it’s vital that I prioritize what my real treasure is. My treasure should be God & the things of God, above all else & above what I want.

See, the moment I make God my treasure and prize possession is the same moment the desires of my heart will be aligned with His!!

Psalm 73:25-26

Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever.

The times where I experience disappointment are the times that I have lost my focus of the right treasure therefore, the desires of my heart are produced by my feelings and influenced by what the world has to offer.

Colossians 3:2

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Philippians 2:13

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.

Friends, God is working in us to give us good desires and the power to do what pleases Him! It’s up to us to surrender our will so that we can take hold of HIS desires, which are so much better! My hope today is that the fleshly desires of my heart bow down to the authority of Jesus, my true treasure. When my desires are in sync with His, NO MORE DISAPPOINTMENT! I will be content while living in His wonderful will rather than getting my own low-level way hahah!
